1.35 Fatalities Per 100m VMT

The latest figures from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that traffic fatalities slightly decreased in 2022, following a significant increase the previous year of 7.2%.

Their latest report also shows that there are 1.35 fatalities for every 100 million vehicle miles traveled (VMT). This should be a key driver and performance metric for road safety interventions going forward.

These figures are a stark reminder that we still have a long way to go in making our roads safer. Despite advances in vehicle technology and increased awareness of the dangers of distracted driving, too many people are still losing their lives on our roads.
